Tarore and Her Book

Title: Tarore and Her Book.
Author: Joy Cowley.

This story is about Tarore of Waharoa going to a Mission School and learning how to read. She then teaches her iwi how to read. The book she teaches them is the Bible. This changes the life of people all over Aotearoa. This story takes place in Aotearoa. She is killed but instead of revenge her father forgives the person who killed her.

I like this story because it teaches me about the Bible.

Cross Fit

Everyday of the second week of the Term Three School Holidays, Robin and I have been going to Cross-fit at Ellerslie. At Cross-fit we did Bear Crawl, Inch Worm, Lizard/Spider Man and Broad Jump as warm ups. We also did rowing machine and ring rows. On the rowing machine we need to pull the handle backwards and dodge the sharks on the screen. One of the easiest things is jumping on and over the 20 kg weights. When we jump on them I can do fifty in twenty seconds. Another thing we do is back flips on the rings. It is very, very, easy. After you do it you are fit.

Tahuna Torea

On Tuesday Robin, Mama and I went to Tahuna Torea for a walk. At Tahuna Torea we played Humans vs Zombies. When we got there we started walking towards the Spit. Robin and I rushed ahead but we did not know which way the spit was. When Mama got to us she told us which way the Spit was. When we got to the bridge we could not go to the Spit because it was high tide. We went to the Godwit Lookout via the Upper Bush Walk instead. It was hard work going to the Godwit Lookout because there were lots of steps and it was a long way. It was an amazing view and we saw Kauri, Cabbage Tree and the top layer of the forest canopy. On the bottom layer of the canopy there was the leaf litter and bugs/insects. It was fun.

Mountain Biking

On Sunday Robin, Papa and I got our Mountain Bikes. When we got there we got our bikes ready and we set off. We went a bit too far and went past the cattle grid to the Mountain Bike Track. When we got back to where the cattle grid was, we went over it. Next we went along it to are kid track. On the kid track we were going fast but it was hard. We all fell off our bikes once or twice. After that we got on to track that was ranked beginner. It was pretty easy and I was able to maneuver very well. Then we went to easy which was a bit harder. Next I went to intermediate but Robin and Papa did easy. Advanced was the hardest. On it Papa's bike fell off a boardwalk, and almost fell down in a stream. Robin's bike fell down three times. My bike fell down once. Then we finished.

Sleepover

On Friday after Taekwon-do I went to Levi's house for a sleepover. First we got KFC for lunch and had Five $ Dinner Deals. Next we went to Levi's house. At Levi & Jayden's we watched Back to the Future and it was funny. After that we went to Cross-fit and I was using Levi's phone. Later we went to Levi & Jayden's uncles house and played on the computer. We played Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Legend of Korra. After that we had KFC again. Then we went back to Levi & Jayden's house and watched a DVD called Volcanoes. When that was finished Levi was asleep and Jayden and I watched Superman Returns. Then I went to bed at 1:39 am.

Auckland Council Elections 2013

In Auckland there are Council Elections every three years, and these are on right now.

The Mayor: The Mayor is elected by the public. The Mayor right now is Len Brown. There are seventeen candidates standing for Mayor and you can only pick one. Once elected, the Mayor appoints the Deputy Mayor which is one of the Councillors.

Councillors: There are thirteen wards and there are twenty Councillors. These twenty Councillors work with the Mayor to make up the governing body. The Governing body are in charge of the Auckland rates and regional issues etc.

Local Board Members: In the twenty-one local boards there are between five to nine people on them. That equals about one-hundred-and-eighty-nine people in Local Boards altogether. The Local Boards represent the communities they are for.

Taekwon-do

On Tuesday Mama, Robin and I went to Taekwon-do. When we were inside I saw Levi F and Jayden. Then it started and Levi, Jayden, Robin and I were on the same class. We had fun and the first skill we practiced was snap kick. I am good at it. Next we did scissor kick. I need to improve on that one but I am better than Monday. It was a bit easier than Monday. The next one was the hardest one. We had to kick the pad with two feet at a time. Levi, Robin and I were in the same group in our class, but Jayden was not. Then Jayden and I paired up and Robin and Levi paired up. Jayden would swing the noodle to me and I had to jump over it. Next we lined up with our instructors and jumped over the noodle and kick the pad that our instructors were holding. We had to remember to lift our knees up to our chest. Last we played Helicopter.

Taekwon-do means:
Tae: to jump or kick with the foot.
Kwon: to punch with the hand or fist.
Do: art or way.
