The Big Game

The Big Game by Sue Gibbison.

This story is about Karla, Mum and the narrator going to watch the rugby game in their small town. Their town is so small that they got used to missing out on the big things. When they heard about the rugby, they were very excited. Mum agreed to the children going to the rugby game, but there were conditions. The children had to do the chores for a week.

Even though soccer was the game in their family, they enjoyed the rugby game heaps. They were really excited when they saw Shane, as he was their favourite player. Karla and the narrator could not wait for the game to start.

When Shane did his big run and scored a try, Karla and the narrator cheered the loudest. At the end of the game, they waited to be allowed on the field. At last when they got on the field, Shane came straight to them to sign their programmes. Then, mum looked at the programme to see when the famous player was playing again.

Living on a Shoestring by Nyree Tomkins.

Living on a Shoestring by Nyree Tomkins.

This story is about Mum getting a book called How to Live on a Shoestring from the library. After Mum got it Dad thumbed through it and said “We do most of these things already, but we do waste toothpaste. Do you realise how much toothpaste you waste by not using everything in the tube?” Then Mimi said “We do use everything in the tube” and Dad said “No.”

Then Dad said “And Julia you could save money by using vinegar on your hair instead of conditioner”. Julia said “Vinegar? I don’t think  so”. So Dad said “Yes it’ll work, Conditioner just balances the pH in your hair. Shampoo is a soap, so it has a alkaline pH and you need something acidic, like vinegar, to balance it out.”

Tarore and Her Book

Title: Tarore and Her Book.
Author: Joy Cowley.

This story is about Tarore of Waharoa going to a Mission School and learning how to read. She then teaches her iwi how to read. The book she teaches them is the Bible. This changes the life of people all over Aotearoa. This story takes place in Aotearoa. She is killed but instead of revenge her father forgives the person who killed her.

I like this story because it teaches me about the Bible.

Lord Darkflungs Challenge

Title: Lord Darkflungs Challenge.
Author: Dylan Owen.

The story is about the three kids outsmarting their Dad.

The people in the story are Darkflung, Anna, Sophie and Tom.

The story takes place in Lord Darkflungs living room.

I think the story is intersting because the children outsmart the dad.
